Opt-outs and the stop list
People who don’t want to receive your messages must be able to opt out. Iflow manages this for you with a stop list. Any message to a number on your stop list is blocked automatically.
Iflow manages opt-outs automatically. You don’t need to keep your own list.
How people opt out
The opt-out instruction
When sending a message you can add an opt-out instruction. It puts a short opt-out link at the end of your message. When someone selects the link, their number is added to your stop list.
The opt-out instruction adds 17 characters to your message. That can push it into another part, which costs more. See SMS message parts.
The STOP keyword
If your message can be replied to, and the person replies STOP, their number is added to your stop list.
Messages sent from a sender ID can’t be replied to, so for those, add the opt-out instruction instead.
Your stop list
Your stop list is the list of mobile numbers connected to your Iflow account that have asked not to receive further messages from you.
Every time you send to a list of numbers, the list is checked against your stop list, and any message to a number on it is blocked with status 9000. This happens automatically, and it helps keep you compliant with data protection and marketing rules.
